Matt Smith alt boots – for the ladies!

Every now and again, while shopping for non-cosplay reasons, cosplay alternatives pop out at me against my will. Today I have a lovely option for female Matt Smith cosplayers who dress in the Series 6 outfit!

boots close up copyThe boots Matt Smith wears in Series 6 have long been identified as custom boots built by Theatrical, a company that makes shoes for film and stage, and can be ordered from Theatrical via Steve Ricks. These boots are custom made to your foot size with the original materials and pattern used to make every screen used pair that Smith wore in Series 6 and 7a (as well as the 7b story Cold War, as pictured above).

IMG_3748Unfortunately for the casual cosplayer and the broke cosplayer, these boots are extremely pricey, being handmade custom to your feet from high quality genuine leather in the UK. Although well-worth the pricetag, they are simply very, very expensive.

Luckily, there are alternatives!

IMG_3749editWhile at Sears the other day, I stumbled across a relatively inexpensive pair of very close ladies boots from SM New York, and they’re currently on sale for the Holidays! They check all the boxes (forgive my lack of terminology) – black, tall, lace-up, strip across the toe box (though the detailing is missing), the side stitching runs on the same trajectory, small heel. The major difference is that there’s heel detailing not present on the Theatrical shoes and the inside is lined in a fabric (also not present on the Theatrical shoes). Also, the material in the SM New York shoes has a matte finish, while the Theatrical boots have a glossy finish – which shouldn’t be the hardest modification to make (some black polish should work just fine).

These shoes are usually $60, but onsale for $30 at the moment. Ladies, grab them while you can!
